She also has her dream dance academy, and she uses it to help underprivileged kids to dance and to go somewhere with their life. She still has her good friends Cece and Mira. We get the idea that it isn’t a perfect relationship, but she says she loves him and he says that he loves her. Meraki ends up in an open relationship with Luca. But something terrible happens, and Niko leaves. They can’t seem to stay away from each other, even as they are tied to other people. ![]() They are all tight, but Meraki and Niko have a special connection. She is hanging out with the guy she’s kind of dating, Luca, and her best friends, Niko, Cece, who is dating Niko, Ari, Niko’s twin brother, Jer, and Mira. We get flashbacks to the past throughout. It starts out 2 years in the future, then jumps back a few years in the past, then we get to the present time. This book does jump around in time a bit. My husband just looked at me with his eyebrows raised, since it seemed to come out of nowhere. I often joke that I curse the name of the author when I get to the end of a book that just left me wow, but I really did say “WTF, Amo Jones, just fucking fuck you” when I read the last words in this book. ![]() And, boy howdy, is my brain still all in a tizzy over Antichrist. So when I say that this book fucked my mind over but good, trust me. ![]() OK, if you’ve read the blog for a bit, you know that I like dark and mindfucks. ![]()

The cover of Shadow of a Batgirl points to Cass's future but also highlights the uncertainty she feels throughout the story. One of my favorite parts of DC's line of YA graphic novels is how the covers frequently focus on the main character and don't include a lot of extraneous action or individuals. ![]() (I did mention the sheltered part of her personality, right?) Cass might not know much at the start of the book, quite literally, but she knows that the life she's been forced to live isn't the one she wants-and that the weapon her father forged her into can be used for more than evil. ![]() She learns a lot about herself while learning to live amongst "normal" society, including how to speak and read. Shadow of the Batgirl follows Cassandra on her journey of self-discovery and her realization of what family truly is. Naturally, what they find puts them in mortal danger. The tale of a group of young Americans vacationing in Mexico, who follow a German they meet on a quest to find his brother, who has been lost somewhere in the jungle. The Ruins was a Good Read (Again? Puntastic! Okay, I'll stop now) but perhaps not the high point in horror literature I hoped it would be. ![]() I picked The Ruins primarily because I watched the film version a few years back and remember it being a notch or two better than most horror films, but that is both a blessing and a curse, really, because I think it.er.ruined (see what I did there? So proud!) what may have been a few of the book's more effective surprises for me. ![]() I owe my reading of this book to Goodreads - which I'm finally getting the hang of as an awesome way to get recommendations for new horror books to read :D ![]() |
